If you have been in need of a new job ever since you quit your last job testing out water treatment chemicals but you haven't been having any luck whatsoever then you might need to go over your resume to see if there's anything in there that's been scaring off potential employers. Cover letters and resumes are supposed to highlight your best features and make you so appealing that those at the Gravenhurst catering company in charge of hiring want to bring you on board as soon as they've put down your cover letter and resume.
That means your resume should show off who you are as an employee and as a person. Be it a North Vancouver bistro or Mississauga limousine rental company, businesses want to hire people they can trust, who have some skills, and who they know will be able to do a good job once they've been hired. Your resume will tell them that because it will be full of skills you have, your school, work and volunteer experience, and any accommodations you received throughout your lifetime.
If you think your resume and cover letter does a great job of promoting you but still aren't getting any callbacks then you need to update your references. Employment references are a big part of the hiring process. A food and beverage PR firm won't hire you on your stellar resume and thought-provoking cover letter alone. They need to know what type of person you are to work with from past employers or co-workers and who you are as an individual.
Anybody can be used as a work or personal reference, really. Former bosses, past co-workers, a clergy member, teachers, organizations you volunteered for, dentists in Aurora Ontario and sports coaches, just to name a few. Those are examples of people you can put down on your resume that you can use as references. Of course you need to make sure that they are all going to say positive things about your work ethic and the type of person you are.
It's not a good idea to put down an ex-boss who you didn't get along with as they might try to sabotage your chances of getting a new job by saying unflattering things about you. That would be the worst thing you could do. So go over your references to make sure the people you have listed are willing to go to bat for you to help you land a job. If there is somebody on there that you are unsure of then replace them with someone else whom you know will say great things about you for sure. There's no point in taking risks when it comes to trying to get a job. |
